Learning outcomes
The student knows the basic strategies of language mediation and is able to use them in basic communication situations.
Course contents
This Mediazione module teaches the bases of linguistic mediation through the use of simulations of interpreter-mediated exchanges between English native speakers and Italian native speakers in daily contexts (restaurant, hotel accommodation, travel and transport). This course also introduces the practice of sight translation both from and into English.
Teaching methods
Each topic will be introduced with a presentation and the students will be actively involved in role play simulations and sight translation exercises.
Assessment methods
This module will be assessed in the final exam through the active involvement of a student in the mediation of a bilingual exchange and a sight translation test. Students' skills will also be tested during the semester.
The final mark for the Mediazione module will then be averaged out (at 50%) against the mark of the Language and culture module.
Teaching tools
Networked PC, beamer, photocopies. Texts will mainly be presented in digital or paper format and regularly uploaded on Moodle.
