Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student will have a basic knowledge of the Ethiopian culture and history. The student will be able to discuss the  subjects examined during the classes and contextualize them with reference to the assigned texts.

Course contents

Amharic language, grammar and text reading. The course will analyse the main aspects of the culture and history of Ethiopia, with a special focus on religion, gender and insitituitions. Part of the course will be devoted to the ethno-history of Ethiopia.

Oral exam during which the student will be evaluated according to the linguistic habilities acquired during the classes and on the knowledge of the history of the Horn of Africa obtained from the reading of the assigned texts.
