Learning outcomes

At the end of the classes students have a deep knowledge of  latin literature, they are able to analyse latin texts with regard to language, style, subject, they understand textual problems referring to latin texts, they use the tools needed for a philological research.

Course contents

Horace, carmina (v. supra) and ep.2,1,1-62 for 6 CFU; plus Hor. Ep. 2,1  for 12 CFU.

Readings/Bibliography

Translation and commentary of the latin texts. .Handbook of classical philology : Chiesa or Scialuga  (v. supra) or another text in german, english, french, for example Scribes and Scholars by L.D.Reynolds.- N.G.Wilson, Oxford 1968.
It is recommended another reading (in german, english or french as well), which has to be arranged with the professor: see italian version.

Teaching methods

30 hours of classes for 6 CFU, 60 for 12 CFU, starting from the 2nd of February.

Assessment methods

Oral examination about the text translated in the class,  prosody of the exameter, general knowledge of classical philology and history of latin literature in the first century A.D.., and the recommended reading.
