- Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Philology, Literature and Classical Tradition (cod. 0970)
Course contents
TraSLA is divided up in two sections, Greek and Latin, helded by
Federico Condello and Bruna Pieri respectively. Students attending
the Laurea Specialistica "Filologia, Letteratura e Tradizione
classica" are supposed to follow the lessons of both sections, up
to a minimum of 30 hours. The bulk of the course will
consist in some translation workshops from several
authors. Contents will be the same in both sections and will deal
e.g. with:
- the different targets of a professional translation: school, university, editory, theatre
- "mistakes and faults" of a professional translation
- some problems peculiar to translating classics
Readings/Bibliography
Literature and readings about the translation studies (and about
the classical texts which will be translated) will be suggested
during the lesson.
As a general introduction to the main translation issues dealt with
during the workshop, the following work is suggested: F.
Condello-B. Pieri (a c. di), Note di traduttore, Bologna
(Pàtron) 2011, con contributi di Gianfranco Agosti, Maria Paola
Funaioli, Alfredo Morelli, Michele Napolitano, Andrea
Rodighiero, Pietro Rosa, Renzo Tosi, Alfonso Traina
Teaching methods
Both the teachers will be present at the lessons of the two sections; they will explain the main translation problems of a short literary passage that students are supposed to translate by themselves; the outcome of students' work will be discussed during the next class. Attendance at the lessons is compulsory.
Assessment methods
Like for any other workshop, attendance at TraSLA works will be the starting point of the final evaluation. At the end of the course there will be a viva voce examination during which the students will discuss with the teachers some of the problematical issues of their translations.
