Learning outcomes
Students are able to master the basic techniques of interpretation
(sight translation, chuchotage and note taking) from French into
Italian.
Course contents
Presentation of the different working settings of interpreters in
the public and private fields. Presentation of the different
interpreting techniques: simultaneous, consecutive and chuchotage.
Exercises in consecutive, simultaneous and sight translation.
Creation of technical glossaries.

Teaching methods
Exercises of shadowing, attention and concentration improvement,
prodution and reformulation of oral texts, oral summaries with or
withot notes, sight translation into Italian, chuchotage exercises
and short consecutive and simultaneous interpretations. Texts will
be taken from Institutions and specialized conferences.
Assessment methods
The exam will consist in a consecutive interpretation of about 5
minutes and a simultaneous interpretation of 6-8 minutes on general
topics.
Students will have to demonstrate full mastery of the techniques of
consecutive and simultaneous interpretation. In particular, they
shall be able to make a fluent presentation with correct contents
and language.
Teaching tools
Exercises based on written and recorded texts taken from real-life
conferences, with growing complexity.
