Learning outcomes

The purpose of the course is to give a basic knowledge of Greek Language and Literature by means of a direct analysis of texts and documents. At the end of the course the student acquires the abilities that are necessary for setting a text in its historical and cultural context, with particular reference to material culture, mythology, rituals and institutions.

About Homer, the student can choose between  the edition published by Einaudi with the translation by Rosa Calzecchi Onesti, and the BUR one, with translation by Giovanni Cerri.  The knowledge of M. Vetta (ed. by),  La civiltà dei Greci. Forme, luoghi, contesti , Roma (Carocci) 2001 is required.
