Learning outcomes
The student is able to understand the role of the Christian modern
churches in the constitution, transmission, protection and
enhancement
of the artistic, architectural and cultural heritage.The student is
able to recognize and critically analyze the close relations
between Christianity and cultural heritage in the modern era.
Course contents
The course, through thematic analysis and concrete examples, analyzes how the Christian churches in modern and contemporary age have determined and influenced the creation, transmission, protection and enhancement of a large artistic, monumental and cultural heritage. Particular attention will be devoted to reflecting on:
1) the value of cultural heritage for the Christian Churches;
2) content and reflection on the historical and artistic heritage and cultural assets in the Papal States;
3) Christian Churches and collaboration with international organizations;
4) Christian Churches and protection of cultural heritage in war zones.
There will be an activity called Laboratorio di Storia, during which, thanks to the study of specific cases and guided tours, the class will deepen the reflection on the theme of cultural heritage in its historical evolution; the schedule of the guided tours will be provide at the beginning of the course.

Teaching methods
During the course, in addition to lectures, the teacher will use the analysis of texts, which will be provided to students, the projections of the images and other audio-visual materials; guided tours and multidisciplinary meetings on issues related to the program.
Assessment methods
The exam consists of an oral interview to be incurred at the end of the lessons. It will be divided into three main questions related to the themes studied and also through the materials presented and discussed in class. In the final evaluation will take into account the interventions of the student during lectures, student participation in seminars and conferences organized or recommended by the teacher and related to the modern scene. In order to pass the exam, the student should demonstrate an understanding of the main topics covered during the course. In order to achieve a high evaluation the student should know in depth and critically the different themes making proper connections.. If the student proves to be unable to navigate between the main topics , he will not pass the exam. Attending students will agree with the teacher the theme and the readings that seek to further.
Teaching tools
The lecture will be supported and supplemented by reading and commentary sources provided in photocopy during the lesson and by the vision of audiovisual material. There will also be guided tours of archives and exhibitions, carried out in collaboration with other classes, which will provide a multidisciplinary framework of the above lessons.
