Learning outcomes

The course deals to provide the general outlines for the research in Italian Prehistory and Protohistory. Students will reach a broad competence on this topic through the learning of methods of description, analysis and interpretation of archeareological records.

Course contents

The Bronze Age in Northern Italy. Introduction and brief description of cultural aspects in the Copper Age, with a particular reference to Romagna. Chronological description of main cultural aspects of Early Bronze Age through the analysis of the mopst important contexts: Palafitte and Terramare, Grotta Nuova, Appenninico and Subappenninico. General view of other cultures of the Bronze Age in Europe. The final phases of Bronze Age and the collapse of the Terramare Culture.

Along this topics, the course will discuss the meaning of “cultural aspects” and how they can be identified in the archaeological record.

Teaching methods

Teaching methods will include: teaching lessons with powerpoint; Discussion of main topics with the participation of experts; visiting tours to the main archaeological museums in the region; Seminars on metholdological approach to the analysis of finds.

Assessment methods

Presentations of topic during session of discussion or direct examination by the teacher. Non attending students are required to agree upon an alternative program with the teacher

Projector, Personal Computer, Practice sessions on drawing pottery and data management
