imitation and innovation

„Any intervention implies demolition, demolish with reason“ Luigi Snozzi

Theme:

The history of architecture and urbanity has always been a sequence of demolition, sometimes productive sometimes not. As our activities as architects are obviously very often confronted with this kind of stress – specialy in a project like San Felice sul Panaro with its partialy demolished buildings as a result of the 2012 earthquake - we should even more be aware of the question how this specific tension could become productive for our architectonical project.

Process:

We will approach the project in two phases. First (2012) we will study the architecture oft the demolished houses and monuments in San Felice sul Panaro. Hereby we try to find out the gravitude oft the demolitions for architecture and the city, we ask for he relevance and necessity of reconstruction and also for the possibel chances of improving the urban situation by proposing new buildings. At the same time we will look for examples of comparable situations in Italy. By documenting and discussing these examples we will develope our own repertoir and at the same time we will extend our capacity for the debates of controversial ideas. During the next semester (2013) we will develope proposals for the urban context and for the specific buildings and sites. During this semester we will also get in contact with the local authorities to provoce a discussion on our ideas.

Object:

The project aims to improve the capacities oft the students within the old debate between innovative und imitative tendencies in architectonic and urbanistic interventions.
