Learning outcomes

The students are expected to acquire a specific knowledge of the authors of Greek Literature as well as the methodological skills useful for textual analysis

Course contents

A- Special focus course ('corso monografico'): Anthology of Euripidean Texts

B- 1. Anthology of Greek Liric Poetry

2.Ilias, book V

3. Aristophanes, Wasps; Plato, Gorgias

4. Secundary litterature: one of the listed books

Lessons timetable: Tuesday 17-19 (Aula I, Via Zamboni 38); Thursday,Friday 11-13 (Aula I Via Zamboni 38). Beginning of the lessons: October 9th, 2012, 5 p.m., Via Centotrecento. The lessons will be carried on all during the first semester. Optional seminars will be arranged between teachers and students.

A. Notes from the lessons. Students who will not attend lessons must translate two Euripides' tragedies; students who will take a 5 credits examination, don't have to prepare any special focus course.

Teaching methods

Almost 20 lessons will be dedicated to the history of classical scholarship from the beginning until now; 10 lessons will be dedicated to literary papirology and palaeography.The rest of the lessons will be carried out as a seminarand students will face exegetical problems of some euripidean texts. Further lessons will be arranged with students.

Assessment methods

An oral examination and eventually a pre-examination focused on the history of Greek literature
