Course contents
From a careful analysis of the crisis of the "classical" drama happened in the second half of the XIX century, the History of direction class for the academic year 2012-2013 (title: Direction versus drama) is to provide students with a recognition of the main developmental stages of language of direction from a reflection on the relations between the practice of direction and the experience of drama during the time. Starting from the analysis of the initial subordination of the director to the verb of the author to come to the reflection on the model of the dramatic writing typical of the protagonists of the New Theatre, the class aims to trace the history of the practice of direction from the Nineteenth century to the present day – together with a catalogue of operative strategies of direction – considering the relations that the different directors have gradually established with the drama. This course will be made up of:
I module = first 30 hours
II module = other 30 hours
During this course it will be possible to attend some external shows and performances. Students who will not attend the course are asked to arrange a program with the professor.
