Course contents

Five philosophies of language:
a.    Plato The sophist
b.    Aristotle On Interpretation
c.    John Locke An Essay concerning Human Understanding
d.    Gottlob Frege "The Thought"
e.    Willard van Orman Quine Word and Object.

(DAMS students) For the half class on Analysis of Visual Communication go to the class with that name.

Other texts will be indicated in class and notes on line.

Teaching methods

Lectures, as already said, and besides a class discussion on some text the
student will be required to read before hand.

Assessment methods

Written exam.  5 open questions.  On line ten days in advance, to be sent back by email within 12am of the seventh day.  Then, a short interview discussing the exam sent in.  The schedule of the colloquia is posted on line 2 days in advance.
