Course contents

The first part of the course deals with different historical and theoretical approaches to the definition of Renaissance (from the humanists themselves to the debate in the XIXth  and XXth centuries).  The second part of the course is devoted to the relationships between literature and figurative arts in the Renaissance. We'll analyse some texts of novelists (Boccaccio, Sacchetti, Manetti) devoted to artists such as Giotto and Brunelleschi and some literary texts written by artists (Leon Battista Alberti, Leonardo da Vinci).
