Learning outcomes

The course has for object to deepen in the more interesting and meaningful themes in the Spanish American Literatures and, at the same time, to debate, with the active participation of the students, the most outstanding theoretical and methodological questions to them inherent.

El curso tiene por objeto profundizar en los temas de mayor interés y significación en las literaturas hispanoamericanas y al mismo tiempo debatir, con la activa participación de los estudiantes, las más relevantes cuestiones teóricas y metodológicas a ellos inherentes.

Course contents

Shortness, Intensity, Tension. The Art of Short Story according to Julio Cortázar.

 

The course provides an approximation to the art of short story through the work of Julio Cortázar, one of the acknowledged masters of the genre. We will examine texts of other important hispanoamerican short story tellers, as well as the main issues traditionally associated with the genre, confronting them to Cortázar's theory and practice of short story writing.

Teaching methods

The course foresees, besides the frontal lessons, the close seminar examination of some themes, correlated to the studied sources, as of the tools, theoretical and methodological, more suitable for their study.

Assessment methods

The students will have called to compile a paper (tesina), whose formalities will be illustrated to proper time. They will sustain, then, an oral test that will move from theirs elaborate.

Teaching tools

We will use, mainly, the video-projection of images and texts, prepared to the computer, with the possible employment of software for textual analysis.
