Learning outcomes

Learning outcomes

The students know in a deepened way the theories of translation studies and they have already acquired a practical ability in translation of different textual typologies from and towards a foreign language. They are able to apply their knowledge and skills to the translation of texts of different nature such as specific purposes and literary texts. Besides, they are able to use the learning methods that have been developed for extending and updating their own knowledge and do research autonomously. Through practical exercises during these 2 years, their communicative competences within all the linguistics abilities progress up to the level C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference, which allows students to effectively interpret the partner-linguistic and cultural codes in any subject within a communicative situation.

Course contents

The aim of the course is to guide the student towards a complete autonomy in translation and help to develop the necessary textual competence to operate successfully in front of the multiple choices entailed by any translation. The course is articulated in a series of practical exercises, both individual and in group, which consist in activities of translation and of critical and/or comparative analysis of translations that will be constantly accompanied by theoretical reflection, in particular: the interpretative approach to translation; the analogies between the translation and the communication process; the different phases within the translation process: understanding, deverbalization, re-expression; the invariant concept in translation: sense; meaning, information, style, connotation and intention.

The course is divided into two parts:

PART A

Activities of analysis and translation into Italian of Spanish argumentative and informative texts mainly related to socio-cultural, scientific and technological subjects as well as to the areas of economy and tourism.

PART B

Activities of analysis and translation into Spanish of essays, narrative and drama texts drawn from contemporary works that have had an influence on Spanish culture.
