Learning outcomes

At the end of this course, the student will acquire knowlegde about rearing techniques and management of poultry species of small market share, including incubation, brooding, feeding program, farming system and slaughtering procedures. In particular, the student will be able to organise the different phases of intensive and alternative production systems of poultry species of small market share.

Course contents

Characteristics of turkey, quail, capon, guinea fowl, pigeon, duck and goose rearing systems.

Reproduction, incubation, characteristics of the rearing cycle, poultry houses and environmental needs, alternative and conventional rearing systems, slaughtering procedures and product characteristics.

Nutritional requirements, feed composition during the different feeding phases.
