04227 - Irrigation and Drainage

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will know irrigation and drainage systems, elements releted to projectation. He will developed the understanding of selection criteria applied in farm drainage systems and computation with economic evaluation;the understanding of criteria for the selection of irrigation systems and functional parameters and their calculation;the understanding of problems concerning irrigation water collective distribution.

 

Course contents

The role of water in agriculture – The concept of irrigation and drainage – The drainage of superficial and underground water: parameters and project calculation techniques – drainage costs – water land reclamation by drainage – Irrigation: hydraulic-agronomic parameters, irrigation water collective distribution – Gravitational methods: characteristics and parameter evaluation, irrigation plant system typologies and plant pattern, and selection criteria – Pressurized irrigation techniques: selection criteria and characteristics of  irrigators and movable irrigators – Drip irrigation: irrigation system characteristics and hydraulic parameters -  Range variety of filters and decision criteria for their selection – Fertirrigation: typology and parameter computational expertise – Prices of the irrigation system installation and maintenance.

Teaching methods

During the course, practical applications of computational cases related to irrigation and drainage parameters are provided.

Assessment methods

The final examination includes some questions (usually three) in matter of drainage and irrigation and some calculations regarding particular irrigation parameters and drainage.
