Course contents

1st part (30 hrs - 6 cfu)
Jewish topographies
History of Jewish culture and Judaism from the perspective of place: a journey through the most important "Jewish cities" starting form the 17th century till the 20th century, from the port cities of the old continent to the metropolis of the new worlds.

2nd part (30 hrs - 6 cfu)
The memory of Shoah
Analysis of a number of forms of the memory of Shoah: history and memory, private e public memory, trauma, genocide, antisemitism.

Lectures, students' presentation of books, discussions, textual analysis and film analysis.

Assessment methods

Written paper.
Oral exam for students who are not attending class.
