Learning outcomes

Aim of the course is to supply deep knowledge on different topics of the Greek society during the I millennium BC., providing the critical tools for a correct comprehension of the archaeological documentation.

Course contents

The Greeks in Italy. From the Myceneans contacts to the historical colonisation. Greek cities in Sicily and Magna Graecia. Outlines of colonial town planning and architecture. Figurative programmes of the temple decoration: art and communication.

The course will begin September 27, 2010. In this date will be given directions to follow the course and prepare for the exam .
It is recommended for students who have never passed a test of Greek Archaeology reading the manual Bejor G., M. Castoldi, C. Lambrugo, Greek Art, University of Milan, Mondadori 2008. The use of another manual should be agreed with the teacher.

Teaching tools

During the lessons visual aids will be widely used, especially projections from computer. All students will have the chance to supplement the lectures of the course with practice in laboratory among the didactic proposals of the Department of Archaeology.
