Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, students will be able to understand the history of urban and rural sociology, to consider the most important approaches and concepts of this discipline, to use them in order to understand its most recent trends, and to know how using some methods and techniques to study urban and territorial phenomena.

Course contents

The course will be divided in three parts:

  1. Theoretical and methodological aspects, with an introduction to sociological debate about urban and rural topics.
  2. A general presentation about emerging topics of urban sociology, and some approaches to undertsand them.
  3. Analysis of the connection between man and territory in the urban context.
