Course contents

The course is divided into three parts: 1) the first one deals with the characteristics of politico-administrative systems in comparative perspective and on the role performed with respect to the implementation of public policies; 2) the second one is focused on the latest studies and approaches on the evolution of welfare state in the main European countries; 3) the third one is based on an in-depth reconstruction of the process of modernisation and policy change in two strategic components of the welfare state: work and health.

Teaching methods

One third of the lessons will be dedicated to papers' presentations and discussions. Students are required to read and critically discuss latest contributions on public administration and welfare state and to present them to the classroom. A collective discussion will then follow.

 

More conventional frontal lessons will of course be held by the teacher and summerized in power point slide which will be regularly made available on the teacher's web site (www.dosp.unibo.it/gualmini). Students are required to attend classes as frequently as possible.

Assessment methods

-   Intermediate written exam for attendant students + oral examination on the second part of the course.

-  Oral examination for non-attendants.
