Learning outcomes
Knowledge of some of some contemporary views on philosophy and on philosophy of language.
Course contents
Meaning and Concept
A short introduction to philosophy of language, discussing the
following papers: G. Frege “Sense and meaning”, P. Grice
“Meaning” and “Logic and Conversation”, “A Nice Derangement
of Epitaphs”.
Hence, a presentation of Plato's theory of ideas in the
Timaeus, and of Wittgenstein's criticism of universals and
of mentalistm in the Philosophical Investigations.
Finally, an illustration of philosophy as a form of
knowledge.

Lecture with discussion.
Assessment methods
Written exam. The exam will be available ten days before discussion
