Learning outcomes

The course is designed to help students develop a critical understanding of the role of linguistics in contemporary multilingual and technological society

 

Course contents

The course intends to consider the role and the objects of Applied linguistics in today's technological and multilingual society. Reference will be made to linguistic literature to examine the relations which are established between language and culture on the one side, and on  languge and natural and technological  environment on the other. We will refer to European language  policies to investigate the phenomena of multilingualism and intercultural communicative situations. 

For advanced levels seminars will be held and readings will be suggested.

         30-hour courses  and/or seminars supported by on-line tutoring.
           

         Regular attendance is recommended

Assessment methods

The course will be assessed by a combination of a written and an oral exam. The written assessment will consist of five open questions to be discussed by the candidate in the oral part of the exam. 

For adavanced levels  the  assessment will consist of a  3,000 word written paper, to be discussed in the oral exam.
