Learning outcomes
Students who will attend classes and pass the final exam will be provided with:
- detailed information on the History of Central-Eastern Europe since 1945 to nowadays;
- specialized information on the relationshps between the Soviet bloc and Western Europe (1948-1990) and on the ensuing process of European integration;
And finally, Students will be able to steer their own way through the present political and social conditions of the region.
Course contents
The Course title is: "Contemporary Eastern Europe, 1939-2009". The Course will study the process of political, institutional and economic change in an area of Europe whose national and religious fabric has traditionally been particularly complex. Attention will be addressed to the Sovietization process, the subsequent, local political and military crises (1956, 1968, 1980-1, 1989), the top-driven impulses to reform these planned economies and the social and economic consequences derived to this area given its having being a part of the Soviet space.
