Learning outcomes

The aim of this course is to provide the theorical tools useful to think, prepare and manage criminological projects.

Course contents

The formation and the dynamics of the juvenile gangs is a topic analysed also in Cloward and Ohlin text; a theoretic treatment about particular collective forms of delinquency. The treatment of this subject does not only represent an important orientation of the European and American sociological theory (Durkheim and Merton), but it also represents a sociological theory of criminality (Sutherland) along with a series of empirical observations carried out by the authors of the Chicago School and by the experts of gangs and juvenile subcultures.

Subsequently, the drug addiction problems of young people will be treated starting from the consideration of the possible intervention strategies. This subject involves a lot of problems concerning vulnerability, the new poverty, the coming back of inequality of our times. As a consequence, it is extremely important to analyse again the "care" techniques and the theoretic strategies which help think on the validity of the relevant interventions: the development and the implementation of such interventions are particularly difficult as their effectiveness must be deeply assessed.

Finally, we intend to deal with some topics concerning the future criminological perspectives which will be applied by those people working in the public and private agencies for the social control in order to be able to use the instruments not only for the crime prevention and repression but also to support victims.
