Teaching methods

The course is divided in three modules. The first module aims at the acquisition of the notion used in the analysis of the socio-political insitutional transformations and at tracing an outline of the politcal history of the 19th century before the First World War. The second module aims at provinding the tools to study the politcal-institutional transformations in the different countries between the two World Wars. The third module aims at providing the tools to set the evolution of the international political history in the bipolar world.

Every teaching session will be organised in a way to provide an outline at the beginning, and then to improve the knowledge of some issues connected to the general outline.

Assessment methods

Attending students

Three written tests will take place and be evaluated during the course to check the learning process as far as both the individual and the class work are concerned. Each of those tests will consist in 10 questions.

The tests aim to check the acquisition of the tools to define the historical settings in which the analysed issues are set.

The tests represent 50% of the final grade.

Grading criteria of the written tests: every correct answer gets 1 mark. To pass the test students must get 6 correct answers out of 10.

Students get a sufficient mark in the final exam showing sufficient skills in the written part of the exam if s/he gets at least 18 marks.

The oral test will be held at the end of the course. During the oral test students will be asked to discuss issues of contemporary history analysed during the course and to present two books chosen among the ones in the bibliography. The choice of the books must be made focusing on two different sections among the ones listed.

The final grade is the average between the written grade and the oral one.

 

Not attending students

The exam consists in two parts: a written one and an oral one.

The written test concerns the volumes n° 1, 2, 3 of the basic readings part of the bibliography.

The oral test focuses on the discussion of the written test and on two books chosen among the ones in the bibliography. The choice of the books must be made focusing on two different sections among the ones listed.

The written test consists in 15 questions. Each correct question gets 2 marks. To pass the test students must answer correctly to at least 9 questions. Students will be allowed to take the oral test only if they pass the written one.

Students will pass the oral test if they are able to discuss the written test and to report at least the narrative part of the chosen texts.

The final grade is the average between the written grade and the oral one.
