Learning outcomes
The students have to face the learning of the most important tools
of visual semiotics theory. In particular, they will know the
distinction between plastic level and figurative level, the
enunciation theory, sensoriality, passional dimension, etc. and
they will be able to use these tools to visual text analysis.
Course contents
The title of the course is The gaze in painting. It will be focused
on the relationships between the spectator and the work of art, and
in particular on the different ways in which that relationship take
place. The problems taken into account will be particularly
pictures size or dimension, the strategies of profile and
frontality, the different constructions of space and light.

Lectures.
Assessment methods
Oral exam on the recommended readings. Students have to demonstrate
a critical understanding of the recommended reading.
The recommended readings and the assessment methods will be the
same for students that haven't attended the course.
Teaching tools
In addition to lectures, power-point presentations, movies and
documentaries will be used to support the teaching.
