Learning outcomes
To recognize and describe the most important diseases of fruit trees with emphasis on their etiology, epidemiology, management and economic impact. To use scientific literature and online resources to augment the knowledge related to course content.
Course contents
Emphasis will be on economic importance, symptom recognition, biology and management of the following major fruit diseases: pomefruit: apple scab, powdery mildew, nectria canker, valsa cancker, fire blight, pear brown spot, pear decline; stonefruit: bacterial spot, sharka, peach leaf curl and brown rot; gripevine: downy mildew, powdery mildew, grapevine yellows, rey mould and esca disease; chestnut: ink disease, canker disease; kiwifruit: grey mould, white mould, bacterial spot and fungal decay; strawberry: grey mould, angular leaf spot, leaf spot disease and antrachonse.
