Learning outcomes
To provide the basic notions on Haminian dynamics: variational principles, canonical transformations, Hamilton-Jacobi equation, integrable systems, canonical perturbation theory.
Course contents
Variational principles: elements of variational calculus, Euler-Lagrange equations, Hamilton'svariational principles. Canonical transformations: symplectic transformations, generating functions, Poisson brackets. Symmetries: groups of canonical tranformations and infinitesimal generators , Lie series, Noether's theorem. Hamilton-Jacobi theory: properties of action, Maupertui's principle, and geodetics, Hamilton-Jacobi equation, action-angle variables, geometry of integrable systems, canonical perturbation theory. Hamiltonian flows: continuity equation and Liouville theorem , ergodic systems.
