Learning outcomes

The student successfully passing the exam will

- have learnt the main historical outlines (political, economic, social) of the whole history of the USSR (1917-1991);

- be properly informed on the new knowledge, drawn from research done in the Russian, post-Soviet Archives by the international ommunity of scholars in the field;

- be able to infer a new general  appreciation of the experience of the Soviet Union and the Communist international movement in the framework of  XXth century history, against the background of pre-1991 historical interpretations and common sense ;

- be able to follow the political developments in the post-Soviet countries after 1991.

Course contents

The course is aimed to  give both a general and detailed account of the impact of  the new archival, post-1991 reasearches on traditional knowledge concerning the history of the Soviet Union (1917-1991).
