Learning outcomes
Learning of fundamental subjects of Physics admitting a rigorous treatment. A deeper understanding of mathemetical thecniques by their correct and suitable applications.
Course contents
Elements of Thermodynamics. Non-equilibrium Statistical
Mechanics: The Lorentz gas and the linear transport equation.
Boltzmann transport equation. The H-Theorem. The Maxwell
distribution. Equilibrium Statistical Mechanics: The perfect gas
thermodynamics. The Gibbs canonical measures. The Ising model. The
mean field model for the
permanent magnet. Ergodic theory: Dynamical systems. Ergodic
Theorem in the mean. Ergodic, mixing and Lebesgue systems.
K-systems. Continued fraction. Entropy of the dynamical
systems. Quantum Mechanics: Experimental results and
fundamental principles. The state of the system. Physical
quantities. Representations and unitary transformations. The
Schroedinger equation. Armonic oscillator. Semiclassical Mechanics.
The infinite well. Metastable states. The theory of the bands.
