Learning outcomes

The learning outcome is to understand the tight relationship between basic cardiovascular physiology and clinical practice. This outcome will be pursued by means of hands-on echocardiography sessons and the discussion of scientific papers.

Course contents

Indexes of cardiac baroreflex sensitivity: their physiological basis and their applications in clinical research (2 hours).

The echocardiographic examination: from cardiac physiology to the non-invasive estimation of stroke volume, ejection fraction and cardiac output (2 hours).

Hands-on echocardiography session (4 hours).

The Course will be held in the Dept. of Human and General Physiology (Hall D) with the following schedule:

April, 30th 2008, from 16.00 to 18.00

May, 6th 2008, from 14.00 to 18.00

May, 7th 2008, from 16.00 to 18.00

IMPORTANT: to allow an adequate pratical training, this Course is open to a maximum of 20 students. The students are thus kindly asked to contact the teacher by e-mail. Priority will be assigned based to the first 20 communications received.
