Learning outcomes
The course is designed to help students develop a critical understanding of the role of linguistics in contemporary multilingual and technological society.
Course contents
In the first module (5 credits) reference will
be made to the basic concepts, issues and methods develeped in
linguistic analysis to explore and reflect upon the relationship
between language and culture as well as between language and
environment - both natural and technological. Special emphasis will
be given to issues of plurilingualism and multicultural
communication
The second module (5 credits) is designed to
develop analysis and critical understanding of the issues
considered in the first module.
Focus will be on 1) plurilingualism and multicultural
communication, 2) technology and language learning and research,
and 3) introduction to corpus linguistics.
It is intended to provide students with basic training and
to encourage them to engage in research.

30-hour courses and/or seminars supported by on-line
tutoring.

Assessment methods
The two modules will be assessed by a combination of written and
oral exams. For the first module, the written assessment will
consist of five open questions to be discussed by the candidate in
the oral part of the exam. The second module will be assessed by a
written paper to be discussed in the oral exam.
