What ensures a right to registration with the National Health Service

When registering with the National Health Service you must select a general practitioner (GP), whose name is indicated on your health card and who you can contact free of charge.

Registration ensures access to all National Health Service (SSN) services in Italy, just like Italian citizens.

Your personal health card gives you the right to the following services:

  • to have a GP
  • free hospitalisation in public or SSN-recognised facilities
  • pharmaceutical assistance
  • general medical outpatients services
  • specialist medical visits
  • home visits
  • vaccinations
  • blood tests
  • x-rays
  • ECGs
  • medicines
  • rehabilitation and prosthesis support

other services considered to be part of the essential care services.
