98217 - 5G Intelligent Networks and Systems

Academic Year 2021/2022

  • Moduli: Marco Chiani (Modulo 1) Alessandra Costanzo (Modulo 2)
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures (Modulo 1) Traditional lectures (Modulo 2)
  • Corso: Minor "Smart Infrastructures"

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will have knowledge of available methods and technologies for the design and management of 5G and beyond intelligent networks and systems for ICT applications. Topics covered in the course include: 5G architecture, deep-learning for intelligent networks, wireless technologies, service coverage and planning, localization capability. Applications and case studies include the design of 5G intelligent networks for: Industrial IoT; disaster recovery; high data-rate traffic areas for crowded venues and cities; mission critical machine-to-machine applications; intelligent mobility monitoring and logistics; autonomous vehicles and drones.

Readings/Bibliography

Material (slides, notes, articles) provided by the instructors

Teaching methods

The course will consist of

- approximately 30 hours of lectures, also flipped-classroom

- team-working on a project, with supervision also by companies

- 20-30 hours of project revision

Courses will be held in the Cesena Campus for lectures and also online, therefore accessible remotely.

The projects will be developed in groups, at the laboratories of Cesena or Bologna or companies (to be agreed in relation to the project and the involved students).

Prerequisite: the course is suitable for all students in engineering. This is possible since the course will provide a common part on 5G basic concepts and applications, followed by differentiated paths tailored to the specific student background.

Assessment methods
