Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student: a) knows the specific method of preparing high level of other sports that take place in the aquatic environment, b) is able to formulate, plan and monitor training, managing teams of high-level , c) is able to study of specific aspects in research sport.

Course contents

Analysis of performance factors in aquatic activities. Performance and technical models of the high-level swimmer. Strength and conditioning in the swimmer. General and specific kind of force development methods. Use of the aquatic environment for force and power development. Use of the aquatic environment for improving joint mobility. Oxygen consumption and energy cost in swimming. Training plan in swimming. Analysis of training gaits in swimming. Monitoring and evaluation of training. Functional evaluation tests in swimming. Youth and female swimming training. Profile and features of the swimmer according to their specialization. Planning and evaluation of the swimmer's technique. Speed and distance specialization. Race analysis in swimming. Energy distribution in swimming races. Open-water and marathons swimming. Finswimming training. Water polo training. Training with hydro-bikes. Swimming scientific research.

Laboratory activities: planning of a research project about aquatic activities. Methodological scientific approach of a research project about aquatic activities. Data collection and processing of data from a research project applied to an aquatic activity. Problem solving with a systematic and scientific approach. Presentation of the project works and discussion of the results.

Teaching methods

During the course of sport experts will hold seminars on specific topics of the program. Will be followed directly, training or competitions with top-level athletes. In laboratories students are going to perform, individually or in groups, tasks: Planning, control, simulation and evaluation of specific training in swimming.

Assessment methods

The level of preparation by students will be assessed by an oral and work in laboratories. In the laboratories will be indicated by the teacher of the projects to be carried out within the aquatic environment. The candidates are divided into study groups, will be able to: program the complete procedure of request, identifying the objectives and working methods; organize a session of data acquisition; process the data correctly and statistically valid , present and report the results.
