Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to deal with the ethical approach to the financial market in all its aspects: banking and financial management. At the end of the course, the student is able: to know the risks and the peculiarities which the financial activity must face with regard to ethics; to have a general knowledge of the literature dealing with the ethical behavior of the banker and of the trader; to analyze the ethical challenges which the modern society must face with regard to the financial relationships.

  • What is ethics?

  • Business ethics: definitions, reasons to face these issues, historical evolution, benefits from ethical behaviors

  • Ethics in listed companies and their behavior towards stakeholders

    • Corporate social responsibility

    • Corporate governance

    • Illegal practices (Insider trading and Market manipulation)

  • Investor ethics

  • Socially responsible funds
  • Impact investing: Microfinance, Social impact bonds, Green bonds, Crowdfunding

Readings/Bibliography

Study and reading material will be distributed during the course and will be available on the platform “virtuale.unibo.it”.

As attending the course is not mandatory, there is no difference between attending students and not attending students.

Teaching methods

The program of the course will be presented in-depth in class. Theoretical lessons will be associated with some specific seminars.

Assessment methods

Valuation is based on a written exam through the EOL platform (on line exam).

The structure of the exam is based on 16 Multiple Choice Questions. The exam lasts 40 minutes. The Ethical Finance module belongs to the integrated course “Finanza per le Aziende Non Profit” also composed of the module of “Funds Raising”. The weight of the vote obtained in each module is 50%.

The correct answer to a Multiple Choice Question gives 2 points. There is no penalty for the wrong answer and there is only one correct answer. The final mark is expressed in the thirties. If you answer all the questions correctly, you obtain the highest mark equal to 32 that is 30 with laude.

Graduation grid of marks:

- 18-23: sufficient preparation and analytical skills on a limited number of topics covered in the course.

- 24-27: adequate preparation and analytical skills but with some limitations; good operational skills, even if not particularly articulated.

- 28-30: very good knowledge of many topics covered in the course; good operational and critical skills.

- 30L: excellent and exhaustive knowledge of the topics covered in the course; critical analysis and connection skills.

Students are not allowed to use notes or books.

A list of the most important formulas is provided with the exam text.

The course will be taught during the second semester. The first call will be set in March and the second in June. The third and the fourth call will be set in September and in February respectively.

PLEASE NOTE: The assessment methods indicated may change based on the evolution of the health emergency.
