95335 - PARTECIPAZIONE, CIVIC ENGAGEMENT E DEMOCRAZIA URBANA

Academic Year 2023/2024

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Sociology and Social Work (cod. 8786)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student possesses the theoretical and methodological tools to analyze and understand the participatory phenomenon, considering the cultural processes and social transformations that underlie it, also in reference to critical dimensions such as conflict, the relationship between everyday life and the public sphere, and the dynamics of the relationship between top-down and bottom-up processes from the perspective of urban democracy. The student is capable of interpreting emerging forms of participation and civic engagement, with particular attention to the theme of urban common goods, practices of cultural co-production, and new forms of collaborative governance currently being experimented with in different cities worldwide.

Course contents

The workshop will focus, in the first module, on the theoretical framework of civic participation in both its top-down and bottom-up dimensions, with a specific focus on the role of actors and communities in the territory for the definition of co-design processes in the urban context. Participatory models and practices will be identified, ranging from self-organized to more institutional ones, starting from some local and national case studies. In the second module, through the presentation and discussion of specific themes, methodologies, and techniques for quantitative and qualitative research will be addressed, which can be experimented with in the analysis of participatory phenomena and the activation of urban communities, delving into some specific approaches: participatory and creative methodologies (serious games, facilitation, territorial workshops), Citizen Science, gender data.
