Learning outcomes

M-PSI/08: By the end of the laboratory course the student: - Is able to identify the differences between various psychotherapeutic approaches from a technical and clinical point of view; - Is able to understand the applications of clinical methodology and individual techniques reported to the individual case.

M-PSI/03: By the end of the laboratory course, the student: will be able to manage a dataset; will be familiar with data analyses and their use.

Course contents

The course will take place during the first semester (September - January) at the Cesena Campus of the School of Psychology and Education (address: piazza Aldo Moro, 90 and v.le Europa, 115).

 

M-PSI/08 Clinical Psychology Module

Module 1/1, prof. Erica Neri

Structure of a psychological consultation and assessment of psychopathology in childhood and adulthood. The planned activities are the following:

  1. Comparisons between psychodynamic, cognitivist and systemic theoretical models and their use in Clinical Psychology;
  2. Techniques and Exercises on conducting a psychological consultation;
  3. Clinical exemplifications regarding the assessment in early childhood and adulthood

Conceptual bases and practical applications of supportive therapy, psycho-education and psychological rehabilitation.

 

M-PSI/03 Psychometrics Module

Module 2, Prof. Giulia Casu

Variable recoding and computation; Descriptive and multivariate inferential statistics: formulation of research hypotheses and evaluation of the type of variables available for data analysis, choice of the appropriate statistical test, statistical analysis with SPSS, interpretation of the results, writing a report of the results.

Main statistical models covered in the course: General Linear Model: ANOVA (one-way, two-way) and Linear regression analysis (simple, multiple).

Teaching methods

M-PSI/08 Clinical Psychology Module

Module 1/1 prof.ssa Erica Neri

Theoretical contents will be supported and integrated with: Group work, case presentation and discussion, role playing.

 

Module 1/2, Dr. Sara Gostoli

Small group work, clinical case presentations, video screenings of sessions with patients, role-playing, simulated psychological interviews, and practice on psychological assessment interviews are planned.

 

M-PSI/03 Psychometrics Module

Module 2, Prof. Giulia Casu

The lessons will be organized in practical exercises in the computer lab with the SPSS statistical package; the exercises will be individual or in small groups.

Assessment methods

Attendance at all classes is mandatory and it will be registered by personal signature. Admission to the final exam will be restricted to those who have attended all the classes.

 

M-PSI/08 Clinical Psychology Modules

Eligibility will be awarded in relation to active participation in class and passing a final individual written test (a short essay) related to the topics covered in class. This final test will take place during the final meeting of the workshop.

 

M-PSI/03 Psychometrics Module

Module 2, Prof. Giulia Casu

The skills acquired will be verified through a practical exercise which will take place in the computer lab, using the SPSS statistical package and data provided by the teacher.

Video projector, DVD player, PC. Handouts will be provided during classes.

 

M-PSI/03 Psychometrics Module, Prof. Giulia Casu

For the practical application of the topics covered in the course, the teacher will provide teaching materials. Lessons will take place in the computer lab, students will have access to the computers in the computer lab where the SPSS statistical package is installed; the teacher will use the video projector and the PC to illustrate the statistical analyses.
