Course contents

This course will provide students with elements of history of literature and, especially, literary genres, stylistic and comparative studies, with which to identify the various forms of the genre known as Kurzprosa, i.e. short fiction, and as Hörspiel as well in contemporary German literature (the last 70 years). Students will be able to identify the specific varieties or sub-genres of Kurzprosa and thus outline their respective features after reading and analysing authentic excerpts taken from the works by the most relevant German authors who make use of such forms.

The main features of Kurzprosa sub-genres such as Erzählung, Kurzgeschichte, Kürzestprosa (Kürzestgeschichte, Prosagedicht, Kalendergeschichte, Prosastück; Kurzroman etc.) and of Hörspiel will be outlined through some relevant historic-literary background information and through the analysis of texts.
