Learning outcomes
By the end of the course the student: knows the history of photography, either in its aesthetic or technical developments, from the origins to the present dauy; is able to reflect upon the role of photography in 20th century art; understands the relationships between photography, visual arts and cultural industry's applications (fashion, communication and advertising); recognizes the contribution of photography in contemporary art development and in communicative applications.
Course contents
From the invention of Photography to the artistic experiences of the XXth century. Special focus will be dedicated to:
- The invention and the pioneers of photography
- Pictorialism in XIX century
- Photographic Portrait/Self-Portrait
- Women and Photography between XIX and XX century
- Photography and the avant-gardes of early Twentieth Century
- Photography and Pop Art
- Conceptualism during the Sixties and Seventies
- Last trend and Snapshot Style

Assessment methods
The exam is a written test made by 16 questions with 4 suggested answers.
The test consists of historical questions related to the main points of the material illustrated in the texts, questions of understanding the text, which are, for example, reports of excerpts from the books of the program, questions on the recognition of the name of the authors of some pictures chosen from the database (see above); and questions inherent poetic declarations and critical reflections in the texts for which the author's recognition is required.
