Learning outcomes

The student knows the basic strategies of language mediation and will be able to use them in basic communication situations.

Course contents

The aim of the course is to develop basic communication skills, improve language knowledge and able students to read and understand simple texts in Chinese and spoke about typical situations of daily life.

The course will focus on the following grammar aspects:

location wordsi;

Prepositional syntax introduced by 从,到,离,坐,跟;

adverb of negation 别,

duration of the action,

the modal verbs 想,要,会,能,可以, 应该;

Progressive aspect with 在,正在;

relative causes

temporal subordinate,

rhetorical interrogative sentence;

construction 要...了

causative construction 让,请 

adverbs and conjunctions for events in time sequence

Future tense with 会

the comparison of,

intensification of the degree of the adjective with更,还,得多,多了,

Aspect of the verb: V+着

The course consists of 20 hours of standard lessons and 40 hours of lectorship. All students must attend the whole course (40h+20h). The final exam will concern the contents of both the standard lessons and the lectorship.

Teaching methods

Lectures for grammar explanations and communicative approach for the development of communication skills. Using a communicative approach, the teacher will strongly encourage the active involvement of the students in individual and cooperative learning activities.

Writing exercises will be assigned as homework for individual practice and they will be corrected by the teacher every week.

Assessment methods

The assessment of learning takes place through a final written test of two hours and a subsequent oral exam lasting on average 15-20minutes.

1. Written test (30 points)

The grade of the written test is out of thirty, its objective is to evaluate the ability to write independently and adequately use the vocabulary and grammar rules of the text "Communicating in Chinese, Vol. I".

The test is divided into two parts:

A. Translate five sentences from Italian into Chinese. (10 points)

B. Write a coherent text of at least 120 characters using at least 12 words among the 20 assigned words (20 points). The title of the composition is given at the beginning of the exam. The test is declared passed if the minimum score of 18/30 is reached

The written exam lasts 120 minutes.

2. Oral exam (60 points) The oral exam consists of two interviews: A. An interview with the teacher (30 points), in which the student will be asked to write some characters and indicate the corresponding radicals and to maintain a dialogue with the teacher using the vocabularies studied during the course. Furthermore, the student will have to answer questions of cultural content. This last part will be held in Italian.

B. An interview with  tutor (30 points) consists of a reading of a text studied in class and three comprehension questions.

 

Evaluation grid for the written test:

30-30L: Excellent level. The candidate possesses excellent language skills, with a very high level of competence in Chinese.

27-29: Above average level. The candidate makes only minor errors, and shows a solid command of the required skills and competences.

24-26: Generally sound level. The candidate displays a number of shortcomings, indicating a reasonable command of the required skills and competences.

21-23: Adequate level. The candidate displays significant shortcomings and only an adequate command of the required skills and competences.

18-20: Minim level. The candidate only meets the minimum level required and shows a minimal command of the required skills and competences.

proof not passed: The candidate’s does not meet the required standard and shows a wholly inadequate command of the required skills and competences.

The final grade will be an average of the mark obtained in Lingua e Cultura Cinese I  and the mark obtained in INTRODUZIONE ALL'INTERPRETAZIONE DIALOGICA TRA IL CINESE E L'ITALIANO (SECONDA LINGUA
