Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student has historical and critical knowledge about the developments of visual arts and photography in the XX century; he is able to analyse and interpret the strategy of the world of the communication in which photography plays a central role.

Course contents

From the invention of Photography to the aesthehtics experiences of the XXth century between art and fashion. Special focuses will be dedicated to:

  • The invention and the pioneers of photography
  • Photography vs Painting
  • Origins and Theoretical and cultural contest around the birth of Fashion Photography
  • Masters of Fashion Photography

Assessment methods

Written Test

The test is based on 16 questions with 4 possible answers.  

There are three typology of question:

- Recognition of the name of the authors of some pictures chosen from the database (see above).

- Questions about history of photography of XIX and XX century.

- Questions about history of fashion photography and informations about poetics, protagonists and authors described in bibliography.
