Course contents

Programme for the class “Translation from Italian into Russian I” (translation into a foreign language)

The course is aimed at practicing target-oriented translation techniques. The resulting translations will be consistent with the needs of the target language at grammatical, syntactical and idiomatic levels. Emphasis will be placed on the general meaning of the discourse, which shall be interpreted through the linguistic and cultural resources specific to the target text. Therefore, cultural specificities of the source text will be adequately adapted. The target text will be written with the intention of establishing an equivalence between the two texts according to communication criteria. With this purpose specific translation rules, which help the translator when looking for the right equivalence, will be applied. Translation tools will be handed out (mono and bilingual dictionaries) and exercises regarding the direct transfer of names, numerals and dates from Italian into Russian will be carried out.
