Short Bio

Full Professor of Logistics and Manufacturing Systems. His research focuses on the design, management and optimization of production and logistics systems, with emphasis on warehousing and material handling, perishable-goods logistics, food supply chains, Industry 5.0, predictive maintenance, packaging and environmental sustainability.

He directs the Food Supply Chain Center, focusing on cyber-physical systems and digital twins for life-cycle simulation, packaging and case-picking automation, and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

He also directs the Warehousing Center, specializing in intralogistics virtualization, material-flow optimization, autonomous mobile robots, digital twins, AI and machine learning.

He has led projects with E80 Group, Coesia Group–G.D, Caterpillar, Alstom, IKEA, Giorgio Gori, CPR System, FERCAM, One Express, Arcese, Due Torri, Chimar, Granarolo, Olitalia, Allegrini, CAMST, Agribologna, Stima, INFIA, Alplast and Conad. Faculty member at Bologna Business School.

New office hours starting from 13/04/2026:

Monday (from 2:00 PM): send an email to the professor in order to arrange, if needed, an in-person meeting (at Viale Risorgimento or Via Terracini), or (without prior notice to the lecturer) call on Microsoft Teams a few minutes beforehand.

To apply for a Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis, please contact the professor by email, sending your CV and a list of exams, including those from the Bachelor’s degree. In the THESIS section and in the ANNOUNCEMENTS section you will find several AVAILABLE THESIS TOPICS offered by the professor. These are only some of the available options. Internships/experimental theses based on real/company case studies and in collaboration with companies are always available (these do not require full-time presence at the company).
