Post-doctoral research fellow at the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Bologna from November 2019 to October 2022 working on the project “Enhancing the sustainability of highly-digitalised manufacturing technologies through intelligent systems”. Within this project he collaborates with numerous local and international companies for the development of new sustainable industrial solutions based on artificial intelligence, especially in the field of additive manufacturing.

In 2020 he defended his Doctoral Thesis entitled “A methodological approach to knowledge-based systems for manufacturing”. This study was carried out in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology of Berlin, where he undertook a 3-month research period in 2019 between April and July 2019.

In 2015 he obtained the Master Degree with honours in Mechanical Engineering with a thesis titled “Investigation Into Relational Models For The Parametric Design On The Basis Of Technologic, Ergonomic And Functional Constraints”. In preparation for the final discussion he spent a period of one month and a half at the Tongji University in Shanghai between April and June 2015.

Dr. Mele is the co-author of more than 20 publications in international journals and conferences, and two Italian handbooks.

He has been the academic tutor of the course “Integrated Manufacturing Systems” at the University of Bologna from 2017 to 2021. In 2017, he was also academic tutor for the student project which won the “Laser promotion award” awarded by the Italian Association of Manufacturing Technologies.

Since 2020 he is Adjunct Professor of the course “Processes and System for Product Design” at the University of Bologna.
