Mattia Mele

Mattia Mele is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Design at the University of Bologna. His work advances lattice metamaterials and additive manufacturing by coupling multiscale simulation, AI/ML prediction, and experimental validation. He studies defect formation, elastic and fatigue behavior, and structural optimization to create reliable, lightweight structures. Mele leads projects on fatigue of hybrid TPMS lattices and sustainable fastening, and collaborates with academic and industrial partners across Europe and North America. His goal is to develop robust, design-ready methods that translate AM lattices into real-world components. Go to the Curriculum vitae
