For students wishing to request the assignment of a degree thesis in

Philosophy of Law, Bioethics and Biolaw, and History of the Philosophy of Law

(Prof. Marina Lalatta Costerbosa)

There is no fixed limit on the number of degree theses that may be supervised. However, a thesis may be assigned only on the condition that the following points are accepted:

  1. A thesis may be assigned only during office hours and following an interview with the lecturer; it will never be assigned via email.
  2. The thesis must be requested from the lecturer at least:
    • 3 months before the final upload of the PDF of the dissertation, for Bachelor's theses;
    • 6 months before the final upload of the PDF of the dissertation, for Master's theses.
  3. Chapters must be submitted progressively throughout the writing process and never only shortly before the deadline for uploading the PDF online.
  4. The degree application must be discussed with the lecturer during office hours, once the progress of the dissertation and the time remaining before the official deadline have been assessed. For Master's theses, the name of the co-supervisor will also be determined on this occasion, if this choice has not already been made.
  5. At the time of the degree application, at least 70% of a Bachelor's thesis and 80% of a Master's thesis must already have been reviewed and corrected by the lecturer.
  6. Before the thesis defense, a complete printed copy of the dissertation must be submitted to the lecturer. It is perfectly acceptable to provide the collection of chapter printouts that have been submitted progressively for reading and correction; pages already delivered and returned do not need to be reprinted, even if they contain handwritten corrections.
  7. In accordance with the degree programme regulations:

    • the minimum length of a Bachelor's thesis is 30 pages;
    • the minimum length of a Master's thesis is 120 pages.

    For further details, please consult the website of the relevant degree programme.

  8. In accordance with the degree programme regulations, the points that may be awarded by the Degree Committee are:
    • for Bachelor's degrees: 0 to 3 points (with the possible addition of honours);
    • for Master's degrees: 0 to 5 points (with the possible addition of honours, in accordance with the specific regulations of the Master's Degree Programme in Philosophical Sciences).

Finally, please note that:

It is important that students embarking on the process of researching and writing their final dissertation are fully aware that copying (even partially) a degree thesis, or submitting as one's own work a thesis written by someone else (including by AI), is not permissible.
