Keywords: lithium-ion batteries sodium-ion batteries Li/S batteries cathode materials carbons liquid electrolytes solid electrolytes ionic liquids supercapacitors enzymatic fuel cells microbial fuel cells

The research activity is mainly focused on basic and applied studies on inorganic, carbonaceous and polymeric nanostructured electrode materials for lithium metal and lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries, lithium/sulfur for transportation, stationary and portable applications. Electrochemical studies on electrolytes, on electrode/electrolyte interphases, with particular emphasis on electrode protection, and on functional separators are also performed.

Lithium-ion and sodium-ion Batteries

- Cathode materials: Transition metal mixed oxides and mixed phosphates, even prepared by microwave assisted synthesis; high voltage Ni-Mn oxide cathodes

-Anode materials: intermetallic alloys even on three-dimensional carbon support/current collector of enhanced cycling stability; composite electrodes based on Sn and on Si; graphitic and carbonaceous materials for capacitive electrodes.

High specific energy batteries: Li/S in aprotic electrolytes

Electrode protective layers

Polymer and inorganic functional separators
