The research activity mainly concerns on avian virology topics and is focused in particular on the study of the etiological, epidemiological, pathogenetic, diagnostic, prophylactic and therapeutic aspects, approached with traditional and new generation methods.

The activity involves diagnostic and molecular epidemiology investigations relating to the main pathogens of domestic avian species. In particular, the research activity focuses on the following pathogens: respiratory viruses (avian Matapneumovirus, avian Coronavirus, Newcastle disease virus), immunosuppressive viruses (Avibirnavirus, Avian Infectious Anemia Virus, Adenovirus) and neoplastic viruses (Marek's disease virus).

The research activity also involves in vivo trials in domestic avian species, for immuno-pathogenetic studies and evaluation of the efficacy and safety of traditional and new generation vaccines.
